Priest Benediction
So you've decided to get a Benediction but you don't know how. This guide will help you on your way to getting an excellent healing staff that will last you well into AQ40. First and foremost we will start with a few requirements that you must meet in order to be able to acquire Benediction.
You must be level 60 (As silly as this sounds you must be level 60 in order to be able to acquire the quest pieces that form Benediction).
You must be in an end-game guild that can successfully down Majordomo Executus in Molten Core.
Now that you have met these two basic criteria you can begin your journey on getting the epic staff. The first leg of that journey is defeating Majordomo. A nice strategy of how to successfully defeat Majordomo can be found at WoW Wiki. Once defeated Majordomo will submit to the raid and the Cache of the Firelord will appear. There is a 50% chance that the first piece of the Benediction quest will be inside.
The second leg of your journey will not require such organization or manpower as the raid on Majordomo. For this leg of the journey you will need to acquire an Eye of the Shadow. This item can either be purchased at your local auction house, although the price for it is usually pretty steep, or as a priest you have the opportunity to farm this item yourself. To farm it you must go to Darkwhisper Gorge which is located in southern Winterspring (map courtesy of Thottbot). The most popular mob to grind is the Hederine Slayer, although there have been reports that Hederine Initiates also drop the Eye of Shadow. There is a very nice instructional video of how to farm the Eye of Shadow as a priest.
Note: There is a third way of acquiring the Eye of Shadow and that is to down Lord Kazzak in Blasted Lands, however this mode is not preferable because he is heavily farmed on most servers and unless you are the in the #1 guild on your server chances are you will not get a shot at him. However if you do get a chance at Kazzak there is a nice strategy on how to properly fight him over at WoW Wiki.
So you finally have both the Eye of Divinity and the Eye of Shadow.
You are now ready to begin the last, and most frustrating, leg of your journey. In preparation for the task that lies before you, you will need to gather some items that will be vital to your success. Before you even begin you will need the following items:
5 Major Mana Potions
10 Oil of Immolation
4 Stratholme Holy Water (if you are specced Holy Nova you do not need this)
Full set of buffs
After you have the needed items you are ready to begin. To form Benediction you must combine the Eye of Shadow, the Eye of Divinity and a Splinter of Nordrassil. To acquire the Splinter of Nordrassil you will need to seek out Eris Havenfire in the Eastern Plaguelands (thank you Thottbot). Once you arrive in the general vicinity, equip your Eye of Divinity and look around for a ghostly figure standing on a hill. Once you speak to her she will give you a quest named The Balance of Light and Shadow, whose reward is the Splinter of Nordrassil. This quest is a royal pain in the ass, luckily we came prepared.
The requirements to succeed are as follows:
Save 50 peasants
Do not let more than 14 peasants die
No outside interference whatsoever
Now that you know the requirements, and have the necessary materials ready, there is one final step before you can begin. You must set up the first five buttons on your keyboard to include the following spells: abolish disease, flash heal (rank 6), renew (rank 6), major mana potion, and holy water (put Holy Nova here if you are specced for it). The peasants only have around 1500HP so using max rank heals would be complete overkill and you'd run out of mana after two waves.
You are ready to begin, talk to Eris, and accept the quest and get started. I suggest that the first time through you do not use any consumables just so you have a feel for how things go. Basically you will have three types of peasants.
The ones in fatal condition (purple): you must cure them, flash heal them, and renew them
The ones in critical condition (green): same as above but with less urgency
The ones in stable condition (no color): flash heal when below 50%, otherwise renew
Once the peasants get to where Eris is standing, a new wave spawns so do not pursue peasants after the hill where Eris is standing.
Now comes the hard part, the whole time while you are trying to save these peasants lives, there will be invulnerable skeleton archers pelting them with arrows. In addition to the archers there will be melee skeletons that come and attack both you and the peasants (NOTE: remember you can let 14 peasants die, that's almost 3 per wave so don't panic if you see some of them die), however these skeletons are killable and fearable (yes I said fearable). This is where your Holy Water/Holy Nova, Oil of Immolation comes in. 1 Holy Water will kill all the skeletons in its range, 1 Oil of Immolation will kill any skeleton that hits you in 2 hits, and 2 Holy Novas will kill all skeletons around you. This is all the insight that I can give you on this complicated process, the rest you will have to learn for yourself. I have given you the tools and the knowledge in order to succeed, the rest is up to you.
